Samoan international, Smith Samau, has signed a dual contact with the Sydney Roosters and Newtown Jets for the remainder of the 2009 season. Born in New Zealand, the young Samoan is 24 and will be a handy backup at both wing and fullback. Smith played three matches for his country in the 2008 World Cup, against Ireland, Tonga and France. His NRL career started in Melbourne in 2006 where he played for the Storm against the Manly Sea Eagles. In 2007, he moved to the Gold Coast Titans and played 8 NRL games as well as some games in the Queensland Cup. Roosters Recruitment officer Peter O’Sullivan said Samau has great speed and is a promising young player. Newtown supporters will look forward to seeing his on-field performance in the royal blue. |
