Four matches to go and still a chance for the finals

The Newtown Jets have a bye this weekend (29th/30th July) and then play away to Canterbury-Bankstown on Saturday, 5th August.

The Jets then have three games at Henson Park in a row – Penrith (12th August), Mounties (19th August) and then Norths in the final round on Saturday, 26th August. That final match is of course the annual reunion day and also the deciding match in the annual Frank Hyde Shield series.

Let’s get one thing straight – after last Saturday’s huge win against the second-placed New Zealand Warriors, the Jets can still make the Intrust Super Premiership NSW finals. As the experienced Warriors coach Ricky Henry said after last Saturday’s 38-12 win by the Jets, “keep playing like that and you can beat any team in this competition”. So there you have it – it might be a hard road ahead for our boys but as proven in the past, the Newtown Jets are always up for anything!

NSWRL ISP NSW – 22nd Round

Saturday, 5th August 2017

Belmore Sports Ground

Canterbury-Bankstown v Newtown

Kick-Off: 3.00pm.

Four Jets made the NSWRL ISP NSW team of the week for Round 20 – they were centre Reubenn Rennie, hooker Adam Clydsdale, front-rower Sam Tagataese and five-eighth Joseph Paulo. Here’s the link from the NSWRL website:

The Jets led 28-0 at halftime and completed at more than 90% in the first half, whereas the Warriors completed at just on 50%. As their coach Ricky Henry remarked, “our boys walked into a dead-set ambush with the huge Festival crowd and Kurt Kara’s 150th game. I warned our fellows that the Jets would be fired up for the big occasion”.

One of the most abiding memories from last Saturday’s amazing day at Henson Park will be the spine-chilling Haka delivered as a tribute to Kurt Kara on the occasion of his 150th game with the Newtown Jets. Those who saw it performed live will never forget the spectacle:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1IvoG4FQlo&feature=youtu.be
