Staff notes
Joel Greig has previously coached the Roosters Harold Matthews [Under 16] squad as well as having undertaken several ARL appointments. Sean Rudder was keen to try his hand at coaching and the formation of Newtown's SG Ball squad has provided him with such an opportunity. Many readers will recall Gerald Symonds as a player with both Newtown and South Sydney while Peter Clarke and Brett Gillard are both former Roosters first graders. Nearly all of the staff have previously worked with Roosters junior representative teams and they have all fitted into the Newtown set-up perfectly. We are confident that the SG Ball staff and their team are going to be a very welcome addition to the Newtown RLFC community. Early training newsNewtown's 2009 SG Ball [Under 18] squad has also been training impressively. These youngsters also maintain a tough four days a week schedule and will be ready for the start of their competition in mid-February 2009. The SG Ball competition runs from the 14 February until the 11 April, the Easter long weekend. Internal trialThese boys also had an internal trial at Matraville Sports High and many thanks to Scott Murray for making the ground and dressing rooms available. The skills of these young lads were an absolute revelation and they will be ready to meet the challenges of the competition heavy-weights such as Penrith and Parramatta. |
