Game highlights
In the SG Ball Cup match on Saturday, the Jets had plenty of chances in this hard-fought encounter with the Steelers.
Newtown trailed 8-6 at the break and drew level at 8-all early in the second half.
A length of the field intercept try to the Steelers midway through the second half proved to be the gamebreaker.
The young Jets tried desperately in the last 15 minutes with several scoring chances going begging through dropped ball and poor kicking options.
Newtown's lock Boyd Cordner played himself into the ground in trying to inspire his team-mates.
Next game
Both the Newtown Jets NSW Cup and SG Ball teams are at Henson Park this coming Saturday (March 21st), with the Roosters Harold Matthews squad getting the full afternoon's program underway when they play the Gold Coast at 12 noon.
Newtown takes on the Gold Coast in the SG Ball Cup at 1.30pm, and in the Jets first competition home game for 2009, Newtown meets the Bulldogs feeder club, Bankstown City, in a Round 2 NSW Cup match at 3.00pm.
