How to search the Newtown Jets site

back

Ever wanted to check a fact from the past?

The Newtown site doesn't have a Search option but that doesn't mean you can't search the site for something in particular by applying a feature of Google.

For example, I was wondering when the Roosters player, Frank-Paul Nuuausala first played for the Jets.

I assumed I would have to go through all the past match reports, checking the team lists and in fact, I did exactly that when I was preparing/updating some of the 2011 player profiles.

Alas, that I didn't try the following trick sooner!

What most people do in a Google search

They enter text keywords and hit the search button, then check the results.

What some people also do in a Google search

They put quotes around phrases and names to ensure that Google searches for a whole idea such as "NSW Cup".

What a few people do in a Google search

The add "+"or "-" signs in front of the keywords or quoted phrases to indicate to Google that the result must contain the particular word or phrase, or must not containt the text.

What is a wonderful Google invention for a search!

Google implements a feature, "site: <specific domain area>"

The "site" parameter means you can limit a search to a particular domain or site. For example, "site:.au" if you only want Australian recipes or "site:www.newtownjets.com/" if you only want to search the Newtown Jets site.

So, today, when I wanted to check when Frank-Paul first played for the Jets, I simply entered the following text in the Google Search line.

"Frank-Paul Nuuausala" site:www.newtownjets.com

Then I browsed through the results checking the oldest pages in the results listing and found...
that Frank-Paul first played for the Jets, off the bench, 14 April 2007.

Check for yourself.

We have a growing archive on our site

We have match reports and players galleries stretching back to 2007 and when 2011 is added to the archive, we'll have 5 years of history - not long certainly but just give us another 100 years!!!

Now you can search the archive quickly and easily.

Try it for yourself!
