Newtown Rugby League Football Club - Established 1908
From out of the pages of Rugby League history, here come the Newtown Jets...

back

One of Rugby League's most charismatic and historic clubs, the Newtown Jets, will be taking one of their 2013 VB NSW Cup home games to Pioneer Oval, Parkes on the upcoming June long weekend. The Jets, formerly known as the Bluebags, are the oldest club in Australian Rugby League and have developed a large cult following in trendy inner-western Sydney in recent years.

The Jets last played in first grade football back in 1983 but they have proven to be one of the game's most tenacious survivors.

These days they function as the Sydney Roosters partnership club in the VB NSW Cup and are the defending 2012 premiers in this high standard second-tier competition. They are the biggest crowd pullers in the VB NSW Cup competition and their clothing and merchandise items are very much fashion statements in the uber-cool neighbourhoods of the inner city.

The Newtown Jets formed an association with the Parkes Spacemen in Group 11 and with the Parkes Leagues Club more than ten years ago.

The Jets played a pre-season trial against a Group 11 representative team at Pioneer Oval back in 2005, as a curtain-raiser to a Sydney Roosters and Parramatta NRL trial match.

The Jets club management decided in late 2011 that it was high time that their famous royal blue colours should be seen again in central-western NSW and so plans were laid to take one of their competition home games to Parkes for the 2012 long weekend.

This year's program is for the Newtown Jets to play the Penrith Panthers VB NSW Cup partnership club, the Windsor Wolves, at Pioneer Oval, Parkes on Sunday, June 9th 2013 at 3.00pm.

Last year's visit to Parkes was a great success and both the Newtown and Windsor clubs had no hesitation in agreeing to play there again in 2013.

There is a strong bond of friendship between the Newtown Jets and the Parkes Spacemen clubs and it is certain to be reinforced by this June long weekend visit. Both the NSW Rugby League and the Country Rugby League of NSW are impressed with this promotional initiative, very much the idea of one of the game's most innovative clubs.

The Newtown Jets extend an invitation to supporters from all other Group 11 and Group 10 clubs to come along for what is sure to be a great afternoon of high-standard Rugby League at the well-appointed Pioneer Oval complex.
