It’s Our Future…
HENSON PARK GRANDSTAND RECONSTRUCTION
Dear Members and Supporters,
The long awaited renovation and reconstruction of the grandstand is about to commence.
We don’t have a firm date yet but it will be very soon.
This will lead to major changes in game day arrangements and seating for the remainder of this season and probably the start of next season. The works are a $13 million renovation and construction of a new addition giving 4 NRL quality dressing rooms, a clubroom, a space for a club gym and lift access to the upper deck providing disabled access.
The original grandstand is retained and renovated and concrete cancer removed.
The project is being funded by the AFL, Commonwealth and NSW governments and Inner West Council.
At the completion of the work the Jets and the AFL will each receive a 21 year lease over Henson Park.
This is enormous for our club and guarantees our future with the best player facilities in the NSW Cup. It will allow womens games to be played as well as double headers.
This work is stage 1 and stage 2 and will involve the reconstruction of the canteen building with first class facilities for game day with new male and female toilets, disabled toilets and a new canteen plus NRL quality media and coaches facilities. This work is yet to be funded but the AFL and Jets are working together to seek future funding.
What does this all mean for everyone attending Henson Park during construction?
- An exclusion zone will be created which includes closing the grandstand and Centennial St Gate entrance and no public car parking in the ground.
- The Woodland Street entrance remains unchanged.
- Sydenham Road gates will be opened for public entrance on game days.
- A canopy will be erected over the seats in front of the main canteen.

NEWTOWN FOREVER!!!
Newtown Jets respect and honour the Traditional Custodians of the Land and pay our respects to their Elders past and present. We acknowledge the stories, traditions and living cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples on the lands we meet, gather and play on and that the land area encompassing Henson Park traditionally belonged to the Gadigal people of the Eora nation.
