Newtown’s oldest living first grade captain Dick Poole celebrated his 90th birthday last Friday (27th November) and the Sun-Herald ran an article and photos of Dick on the 29th November.
One of Dick’s team-mates from Newtown’s 1954 and 1955 first grade grand final teams, lock forward Peter Ryan, turned 87 on the 3rd December.
Happy birthday again to both of these wonderful Newtown Bluebags veterans!
Our good friends in the NSWPDRLA have asked for this information to be included in any Newtown Jets newsletters or website postings, and we are more than happy to oblige:
The Newtown Jets are proud to celebrate International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD).
First proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly, IDPwD is a day to celebrate ‘nothing about us without us’, the global mantra for self-determination and empowerment for people with disability.
The Newtown Jets are proud partners of the NSWPDRLA as the organisation strives to offer children and adults with a physical disability the opportunity to participate in the greatest game of all.
The theme for IDPwD2020 is ‘Building Back Better: toward a disability-inclusive, accessible and sustainable post COVID-19 World’, which perfectly illustrates the current work of the NSWPDRLA as plans come together for Season 2021.
Registrations for Season 2021 will commence in the coming weeks, so please follow us on Facebook or visit https://nswpdrla.com.au/ to check for updates.
The renowned Newtown Jets clothing and merchandise marquee will be open again this Saturday, 5th December, in front of the Wesley Mission in King Street, Newtown, directly opposite the Dendy Cinemas.
This will be a great opportunity to get those special Christmas gift choices – the marquee is open from 10.00am to 4.00pm.
Young Henrys has been Newtown Jets’ official hydration sponsor since 2016, with NEWTOWNER being the beer of choice at Henson Park ever since.
With there being no footy games for the Jets this year and no hordes of local legends heading into Henson Park, 2020 has been tough for many.
The NSWRL has recently confirmed the NSW Cup will return in 2021.
As we get ready for TAKE OFF, Young Henrys are kindly donating 100% of the proceeds of this tee to our club so order yours now (while stocks last)!
$45 + postage
These are the remaining available sizes:
Small, XL, 3XL, 4XL
To order: SMS 0447 046 516 or email smccarthy@newtownjets.com

The two Newtown RLFC history books, Through Blue Eyes – A Pictorial History of the Newtown RLFC (Newtown’s history from 1908 to 2008), and Taking It To The Streets – The Second Life of the Newtown RLFC (a magisterial examination of Newtown’s return into rugby league from 1984 to the end of 2018) are both available online (newtownjetsclothing.com.au) or by calling 02 8488 8200 for credit card purchases.
Distinguished sporting and literary authors and identities who recommend these two books include Ian Heads, Roy Masters, UK historian Professor Tony Collins and Brisbane journalist Steve Ricketts.
Newtown Jets respect and honour the Traditional Custodians of the Land and pay our respects to their Elders past and present. We acknowledge the stories, traditions and living cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples on the lands we meet, gather and play on and that the land area encompassing Henson Park traditionally belonged to the Gadigal people of the Eora nation.
