Newtown Jets Virtual Team List v Eastern Suburbs Roosters Sat 18th April, 2020

While we might not be able to watch Newtown Jets games live this season we can relive past glories from years gone by. As part of Virtual Season 2020 every Saturday from 3pm JETS TV will broadcast classic encounters featuring our opponents from the 2020 Canterbury Cup NSW draw. Our intrepid social media team will “live tweet” the game as if they had entered a time machine and want you to be part of the action.

This weekend we were supposed to play Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles at Henson Park. Given we kicked of our Virtual Season three weeks ago with the all-time classic 1981 Elimination Semi-Final against Manly, where the Jets won the biffo and the game, tune in to JETS TV www.newtownjets.com and follow us on www.twitter.com/newtownrlfc this Saturday 18th April from 3pm for our first Members’ Request Match. We go back to 1981 for the Preliminary Final between Easts and Newtown played at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday 19th September. Thanks to Steven Russo (Member #1205) and Craig Leonard (Member #53) for contacting us to request this match.

Again this week we salute everyone that has supported our Keep The Jets Flying fundraiser. Your generosity has been overwhelming, not least ‘Loyal Bluebag’ (you know who you are!) who donated $1,000 to the cause allowing twenty Pensioner Members to upgrade their memberships for free and receive the benefits that Keep The Jets Flying Members get to enjoy. We also wish to acknowledge and thank Geoff Crossley (Member #235) for his extra special contribution. BRAVO to you both!!

We recognize not everyone can afford to help financially during these extremely challenging times but if you can, for details of the fantastic package on offer JOIN HERE.

Your support will help ensure we return in 2021 to defend our 2019 Premiership & NRL State Championship.

A great many giants of the 13-a-side code have worn Newtown’s royal blue colours in our club’s 113-year history. Frank Hyde played with Newtown from 1934 to 1937 and was a member of Newtown’s City Cup winning team in 1937. He is pictured third in from the right in the back row. (Newtown RLFC collection).
