This Wednesday, 10th June they’re travelling to the hallowed turf of the Sydney Cricket Ground to bring you a NSWRL First Grade ‘Match of the Day’ between Newtown and St George that was actually played on Saturday, 11th May 1974.
Newtown had an unenviable record of only having beaten the Dragons three times in their last thirty-six encounters dating back to 1957. Two of these wins were in 1973 when the Jets won the coveted NSWRL Club Championship including the famous 1-0 victory at the same ground almost a year to the day before.
Newtown had started the 1974 season with five wins from their first six games and went in to the game full of confidence.
