Newtown Jets Virtual Team List v Wentworthville Wed 23rd September, 2020

Welcome to the Grand Final of Newtown Jets Virtual Season 2020.

While we haven’t been able to watch Newtown Jets games live this season we have relived past glories from years gone by. As part of Virtual Season 2020, JETS TV has broadcast classic matches featuring our opponents from the 2020 Canterbury Cup NSW draw in “Amco Cup retro-style” on Wednesday nights at 8.00pm. Our intrepid social media team has “live tweeted” the games as if they had entered a time machine so you can be part of the action.

On Wednesday, 23rd September they head to Bankwest Stadium, Parramatta to bring you the 2019 Canterbury Cup NSW Grand Final between Newtown and Wentworthville that was actually played on Sunday, 29th September, 2019.

The match was in fact Wentworthville’s final appearance in the Canterbury Cup NSW, as they were leaving the competition at the completion of the season. The Parramatta club intended to field its own team in the Canterbury Cup NSW from 2020 onwards.

Oddly enough, this was the same situation with the Balmain club in 2012, with the Grand Final of that year being the Balmain Tigers final appearance in what was then the NSW Cup competition. Newtown supporters would well recall that the Jets won that grand final 22-18.

Another striking similarity with Newtown’s previous Premiership win was the fact they had again qualified for the finals in 7th position and were taking on the team that finished 8th.

The winner of the inaugural Canterbury Cup NSW premiership title will go on to play the Queensland Intrust Super Premiership winners on NRL Grand Final day at ANZ Stadium on Sunday, 6th October, 2019.

So tune in at 8.00pm, Wednesday, 23rd September to JETS TV www.newtownjets.com or www.facebook.com/newtownrlfc  and follow us on www.twitter.com/newtownrlfc to find out if another Bluebags fairytale comes true.
