Newtown Jets Virtual Team List v Wests Wed 19th August, 2020
Welcome to Round 23 of Newtown Jets Virtual Season 2020.
While we might not be able to watch Newtown Jets games live this season we can relive past glories from years gone by. As part of Virtual Season 2020, JETS TV is broadcasting classic matches featuring our opponents from the 2020 Canterbury Cup NSW draw in “Amco Cup retro-style” on Wednesday nights at 8.00pm. Our intrepid social media team will “live tweet” the game as if they had entered a time machine and want you to be part of the action.
On Wednesday, 19th August they head to ‘the eighth wonder of the modern world’, Henson Park to bring you a 2019 Canterbury Cup NSW clash between Newtown and fellow foundation club Western Suburbs that was actually played on Saturday, 24th August, 2019.
The Newtown Jets and Western Suburbs Magpies clubs headed into the 23rd round Canterbury Cup confrontation with a place in the competition’s top eight on the line. After a disappointing start to the season, losing six of their first seven matches, the Jets were in 7th position on 21 points and Wests in 10th place, only two points behind on 19.
In fact second tier rugby league doesn’t get any better than this – two foundation clubs, both 111 years old and with amazing club histories, shaping up for a match that may well decide which of these two clubs will make the finals.
On top of this, the game was the deciding match in the 2019 Tom Raudonikis Cup series (the Magpies were one-up having beaten Newtown 32-22 back on the 28th April).
So tune in at 8.00pm, Wednesday, 19th August to JETS TV www.newtownjets.com or www.facebook.com/newtownrlfc and follow us on www.twitter.com/newtownrlfc to see who prevails.
