Across "The Ditch" at the Walter Massey Park in South Auckland, Newtown won their first match of the NSW Cup season in defeating the Auckland Vulcans by 26-24, after looking to be "gone for all money" when they trailed by 24-10 with less than 15 minutes left to play.
Newtown's SG Ball Cup semi-final win featured an outstanding performance from halfback, Jacob Miller, who scored 5 tries and kicked 6 goals in what coach Joel Greig described as the team's "near perfect second half display".
The Jets were behind by 18-12 at halftime but showed good ball control and registered a high completion rate in overwhelming the Tigers in the second half.
Player performances
Man of the match Miller had plenty of competition for the award with strong games from backrowers, Nick Ehsman and Ethan Lowe, and another polished display from five-eighth, Tom Dawney.
The Jets now advance into the quarter-finals against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, with this match to be played at Toyota Park on Saturday, 25 April at 3.30pm.
