The Jets and the Dirty Reds set to renew an ancient rivalry

The Newtown Jets and the Glebe Dirty Reds, two of rugby league’s oldest clubs, will meet in a pre-season trial match at Wentworth Park on Sunday, 16th February.

This showdown will be the first time that these two foundation clubs have met in a rugby league match in 91 years. This has all the makings of a very competitive and spirited trial match. The Glebe Dirty Reds are Newtown’s partnership club in the NSWRL Ron Massey Cup competition and the players in both squads will be vying for a place in the 2020 Newtown Jets Canterbury Cup NSW team.

The Dirty Reds have staged trial matches at their spiritual home, Wentworth Park, in 2018 and 2019. It will be quite a sight to see Glebe’s maroon and white colours matched up against Newtown’s world famous royal blue strip.
