headspace Camperdown & the Newtown Jets are working together to raise awareness about mental health

headspace Camperdown is happy to be working alongside our local Rugby League Club (the Newtown JETS) to be raising awareness among players, their families, friends and supporters.Statistics show that one in four Young Australians are currently suffering from a mental health condition and nearly 45% of all the population will suffer from a mental disorder at some time in their lives. So it’s important headspace Camperdown & the Newtown Jets are working together to raise awareness so people know where to access help quickly if they need it instead of suffering alone.Source: https://www.youthbeyondblue.com/footer/stats-and-factshttps://www.sane.org/mental-health-and-illness/facts-and-guides/facts-figuresStatistics also show that young men find it more difficult to reach out for help than young women so that is why headspace Camperdown are targeting sporting teams where many young men are engaged. The Newtown JETS are more than willing to get behind promoting positive mental health and wellbeing and continue encouraging help seeking among our players in the hope more young men with get the help they need quicker to get back on track with their lives.CHECK OUT JOEL THOMPSON’S STORY - ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA DRAGONS PLAYERhttp://headspace.org.au/news/joel-thompson-tells-aboriginal-and-torres-strait-islander-young-people-theres-no-shame-in-talking-it-out/VIDEO:JOEL THOMPSON – ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA DRAGONS PLAYERhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJ1KYbgJX0gSERVICE INFORMATIONheadspace Camperdown is our local Youth mental health service that assist young people aged 12-25 who are going through a hard time. They can help young people with:-Mental health and Physical wellbeing concerns-Vocational Assistance-Drug and alcohol worrieswww.headspace.org.au/CamperdownTo make an appointment call (02) 91144100web 7349078-3x2-940x627DADS CAMPAIGN87% of young men don't get help for their mental health issues so headspace has a new campaign aimed at Dad to start conversations with their Young Peoplehttp://headspace.org.au/dads/web JarinSIGNS FOR PARENTS TO LOOK OUT FORSigns for parents to look out for that their young person may be struggling with a mental health issuehttp://headspace.org.au/news/the-warning-signs-of-an-emerging-mental-illness/DEPRESSIONDepression is one of the most common issues affecting Young Australians.
