The new Newtown Jets history book has topped this week’s bestseller’s list at the Better Read Than Dead Bookshop in King Street, Newtown
Thelatest book about the 111 years-old Newtown RLFC was launched in style at theBetter Read Than Dead Bookshop in King Street, Newtown on last Monday evening,29th July.
TakingIt To The Streets – The Second Life of the Newtown RLFC looks at the Newtownclub’s history from 1984 onwards, with particular reference from when the Jetsre-entered the active rugby league playing ranks in 1991.
Thebook has been written by long-serving Newtown Jets Director, Media Officer andpublicist Glen “Bumper” Dwyer. The book was officially launched withconsiderable élan by JudgeStephen Norrish QC of the NSW District Court, with other speakers includingTerry Williams (who wrote two earlier histories of the Newtown RLFC in 1993 and2008), Terry Rowney (long-serving club Director, sponsor and strategist) andthe author himself.
DavidTrodden, CEO of the NSW Rugby League was at the well-attended book launch,which included various Newtown Jets luminaries such as current President BarryCotter, former coach Colin Murphy, current Canterbury Cup coach Greg Matterson,as well as Metropolitan Cup playing identities Peter Baumgart, Darryl Neville,Paul Danes and Tony Catton. The Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks were represented byMedia Manager Rob Willis and NRL assistant coach David Howlett. The SydneyRoosters club was represented by Life Member Alan Katzmann and life-long supporterJohn Wilkinson. Deputy-Mayor Victor Macri represented the Inner West RegionalCouncil.
