Australia’s first rugby league club heads into another grand final this Sunday
TheNewtown Jets and Wentworthville clash in the inaugural Canterbury Cup NSW grandfinal on Sunday at Bankwest Stadium.
Thematch is in fact Wentworthville’s final appearance in the Canterbury Cup NSW,as they are leaving the competition at the completion of this season. TheParramatta club intends to field its own team in the Canterbury Cup NSW from2020 onwards.
Oddlyenough, this was the same situation with the Balmain club in 2012, with thegrand final of that year being the Balmain Tigers final appearance in what wasthen the NSW Cup competition. Newtown supporters would well recall that theJets won that grand final 22-18.
Thewinner of Sunday’s inaugural Canterbury Cup NSW premiership title will go on toplay the Queensland Intrust Super Premiership winners on NRL Grand Final day atANZ Stadium on Sunday, 6th October.
