Vale Bobby Petersen, Newtown Legend.
It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Bobby Petersen - a beloved friend, loyal supporter, and true Newtown legend.
Bobby's lifelong love of the Bluebags was a product of his Camperdown upbringing. He came on board as a sponsor via his Maroubra butcher shop during the 1990s when the club was in its Metro Cup era at Redfern Oval. That sponsorship continued long after he sold the business. Bobby and his brother Chris, alongside the late Billy Elliott, generously supplied the meat trays and fruit and vegetable boxes that to this day are a staple of game day raffles. This sponsorship was the club's longest, as well as a quiet, consistent act of giving that spoke volumes about the kind of man he was.
Bobby didn't need a title or a role. He simply loved being part of this club, and there was nowhere he'd rather be on a game day than at Henson Park, watching that famous Newtown jersey go around. He will be deeply missed by everyone in the Jets family.
The club extends its deepest sympathies, thoughts, and prayers to the entire Petersen family - in particular to Bobby's daughters Jacqui and Penny, and their families. You are in our hearts.
Rest in peace, Bobby. Rest in peace, Newtown legend.
