Jets need to be on guard against the boys from across the Ditch

Both the Newtown Jets and New Zealand Warriors clubs are engaged in a fierce struggle for a place in the top eight of the Canterbury Cup NSW competition.

The Jets might be aiming to make it four wins in a row on Saturday, but they would be ill-advised to take the Warriors (showcasing at least ten players with NRL experience) too lightly.

Please note that this match kicks off at 1.00pm.

This Saturday’s match details:

Jamie Soward previews this Saturday’s Jets-Warriors match:

“The Warriors did what they were supposed to do, Blacktown were never going to go over there and upset them, so they were professional without being great. (Chanel) Harris-Tavita and (Adam) Keighran are still learning to play alongside each other. The Jets great win, they’ve really turned the corner with in terms of their effort and their completion rate. The Jets are now ninth and a couple of weeks ago we thought they weren’t going to win a game so it’s been a good month for them. Jets by 6.”

Updated information on the availability of Newtown Jets merchandise

Big Saulala Houma played with the Newtown Jets from 2012 to 2017 and was a member of Newtown’s 2012 NSW Cup premiership-winning team. These days Saulala is a rampaging front-rower for the Wagga Kangaroos RLFC down in Group 9 in southern NSW. Saulala features on the front cover of the updated Newtown Jets club history, Taking It To The Streets – The Second Life of the Newtown RLFC. Author of the book and Jets Director Glen “Bumper” Dwyer was in Wagga last Friday to present Saulala Houma with a copy of the book. 2019 – The Year that the Newtown Jets Struck Gold Twice

On 6th October 2019 at ANZ Stadium, the Newtown Jets defeated Burleigh Bears 20-16 in the NRL State Championship Final. This win effectively made Newtown the best club team (outside of the NRL competition) in Australia, New Zealand and Papua-New Guinea. Newtown centre Jackson Ferris (with the ball) is shown sprinting away for the winning try with less than ten seconds of regular time left to play, having seized upon a pin-point short kick by his team-mate Billy Magoulias. Newtown had trailed 10-2 at half-time and 16-14 going into the last ten seconds of the match. Photo: Michael Magee Photography
