The Tom Kirk Cup is up for grabs this Saturday when the Jets clash with the Dragons at the ‘jewel in the crown of Rugby League grounds’, the one and only Henson Park. Newtown defeated St George Illawarra 30-16 back in Round 4 but with both teams in recent good form this promises to be an enthralling decider.
Newtown will run out in a commemorative 1923 replica strip this Saturday which will also double as our 2023 Members jersey.
The inspiration for the jersey came from club historian Terry Williams, who was conducting research and discovered a series of photographs in the Sydney Mail of a 1923 NSWRL premiership match between Newtown and Eastern Suburbs. The photographs show the Newtown jumpers have a black saddle. This design was very common in the early 20th century. This is a one in one hundred years event!
These absolutely one-off player worn jerseys and socks will be available to purchase post-game [details to follow].
There’s not a better place in Sydney to spend a sunny Saturday winter afternoon so we call on all Bluebags to come and cheer on the Men All Dressed In Blue (and for this Saturday only, a dash of black).
As usual, there will be plenty of fun to be had on the DEICORP Family Hill with FREE jumping castles, face painting & pass the ball to keep the kids entertained. Ice Cream Joe’s Mr Whippy & Barista will be in attendance, next to the Main Canteen whilst Philter’s Henson Park Draught, XPA and other tasty brews are available for all the Mums, Dads and over 18s along with Kraken Black Spice Rum’s Black Mojito.
Australian Mutual Bank’s Best Seats at Henson is on again in 2023 and they could be yours this Saturday. For your chance to win FREE entry for 4 people plus food and drinks click on the link and enter your details https://forms.sharedservices.com.au/form.php?c=146&f=345
Australian Mutual Bank will also be running a Pass the Ball competition next to the jumping castles before the game with Australian Mutual Bank Newtown Jets mini footballs being given away as prizes. So, all you junior Bluebags, tell your parents to get you to Henson early to win!

So as Lynchy always says… ‘Dig deep & support the Jets’.
After the game, the Jets invite members, supporters and friends to the The VIC on the Park from 5.45pm to mingle with players and coaching staff and hopefully celebrate a win. The VIC on the Park is located at 2 Addison Road, Marrickville.
If you can’t make it to Henson on Saturday, the match is to be livestreamed on our Facebook and YouTube.
Newtown Jets respect and honour the Traditional Custodians of the Land and pay our respects to their Elders past and present. We acknowledge the stories, traditions and living cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples on the lands we meet, gather and play on and that the land area encompassing Henson Park traditionally belonged to the Gadigal people of the Eora nation.
