Newtown Jets Virtual Team List v North Sydney Wed 9th September, 2020

Welcome to Finals Week 2 of Newtown Jets Virtual Season 2020.

While we might not be able to watch Newtown Jets games live this season we can relive past glories from years gone by. As part of Virtual Season 2020, JETS TV is broadcasting classic matches featuring our opponents from the 2020 Canterbury Cup NSW draw in “Amco Cup retro-style” on Wednesday nights at 8.00pm. Our intrepid social media team will “live tweet” the game as if they had entered a time machine and want you to be part of the action.

On Wednesday, 2nd September they head to Leichhardt Oval to bring you a 2019 Canterbury Cup NSW Elimination Semi-Final between Newtown and Norths that was actually played on Sunday, 15th September, 2019.

The Newtown and North Sydney clubs had met twice in elimination semi-finals in recent years and on both occasions the matches were thrillers.

The Bears prevailed by 17-16 in a pulsating encounter in 2011, and Newtown won in golden point extra time in 2012 with Daniel Mortimer kicking a long-range penalty goal.

In 2019 Newtown won 32-30 in round 5 at Henson Park, while the Bears squared accounts in round 17 at North Sydney Oval with a convincing 22-8 win.

The Jets went into Sunday’s sudden-death match on the back of an outstanding performance against Mounties the previous Saturday while Norths were well beaten by South Sydney 32-12 in their qualifying final.

As Big League put it, “Newtown and North Sydney face off, with their regular season results split one apiece. Although the Bears finished higher on the competition table, Newtown can be regarded as being in better recent form and this should be a compelling clash.”

So tune in at 8.00pm, Wednesday, 9th September to JETS TV www.newtownjets.com or www.facebook.com/newtownrlfc  and follow us on www.twitter.com/newtownrlfc to find out just how compelling it was.
