Another TV occasion for the Jets and another 1.00pm kick-off

The Newtown Jets have the bye this weekend (9th/10th June) and will be back at Henson Park next Saturday, 16th June.

The Jets will be at home to the Intrust Super Premiership competition leaders Mounties, and this match of the round is to be televised live by Channel Nine. Please note that this match will kick off at 1.00pm.

Newtown beat the Mounties 34-20 when they met at the Aubrey Keech Reserve back on the 12th May, with Will Kennedy and Matt Evans both scoring two tries, while Kyle Flanagan, Bessie Aufaga-Toomaga and Reubenn Rennie notched one try each.

Mounties are the ISP NSW partnership club of the Canberra Raiders and joined the NSW Cup competition in 2012. The Jets have never beaten Mounties at Henson Park and that is a record that needs to be put right on Saturday, 16th June.

The Newtown RLFC regrets to announce the recent passing of a very keen Newtown Jets supporter, Craig Wilson, in Newcastle-upon-Tyne (UK). Craig came to Australia in the mid-1990’s and immediately settled in inner-western Sydney. He quickly adopted the Newtown Jets as his local rugby league team and became a regular at Redfern Oval home games in the club’s Metropolitan Cup years. Craig set up Newtown’s first website and the club will always be indebted to him for his unbounded enthusiasm, energy and ideas as a committed supporter. The Newtown RLFC extends its condolences to his family members in England.

Alby Talarico from Steele Sports caught up with Newtown second-rower Jack Williams and had a chat about the Jets 20-6 win over the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs:

There is a large contingent of Newtown Jets contracted players turning out for Glebe-Burwood in their match against Wentworthville at Ringrose Park on Sunday, 10th June at 1.00pm. The Glebe-Burwood Wolves and Wentworthville are both on 12 competition points, with the Wolves in third place and ahead of Wenty on points for and against. We extend our Ron Massey Cup partnership club good wishes for this important game. Glebe-Burwood (as the Glebe Dirty Reds) will be playing at Henson Park against Mounties on Saturday, 16th June at 3.00pm (following the Jets-Mounties game).

Newtown Jets memberships for 2018 are still available. Check out this link for the necessary information:  http://www.newtownjets.com/jets-membership-2018/

Newtown Jets respect and honour the Traditional Custodians of the Land and pay our respects to their Elders past and present. We acknowledge the stories, traditions and living cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples on the lands we meet, gather and play on and that the land area encompassing Henson Park traditionally belonged to the Gadigal people of the Eora nation.
