Newtown Jets Virtual Team List v St George Illawarra Wed 16th September, 2020
Welcome to Finals Week 3 of Newtown Jets Virtual Season 2020.
While we might not be able to watch Newtown Jets games live this season we can relive past glories from years gone by. As part of Virtual Season 2020, JETS TV is broadcasting classic matches featuring our opponents from the 2020 Canterbury Cup NSW draw in “Amco Cup retro-style” on Wednesday nights at 8.00pm. Our intrepid social media team will “live tweet” the game as if they had entered a time machine and want you to be part of the action.
On Wednesday, 16th September they head to Netstrata Jubilee Stadium, Kogarah to bring you a 2019 Canterbury Cup NSW Preliminary Final between Newtown and St George Illawarra that was actually played on Sunday, 22nd September, 2019.
Newtown Jets were taking on the minor premiers with the winner advancing to the Grand Final to play either South Sydney or Wentworthville whose Preliminary Final was played the day before.
Newtown beat the Dragons on both occasions in the Canterbury Cup NSW premiership rounds. In round 11, the Jets won 36-22 at WIN Stadium, Wollongong. In round 16, Newtown defeated the Dragons 24-18 at Henson Park, thereby claiming the Tom Kirk Cup for 2019.
The Newtown RLFC called on Jets supporters to turn out in big numbers at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium, as the Dragons had a home ground advantage in this match.
So tune in at 8.00pm, Wednesday, 16th September to JETS TV www.newtownjets.com or www.facebook.com/newtownrlfc and follow us on www.twitter.com/newtownrlfc to find out if our march to premiership glory continues.

Another way you can Keep The Jets Flying is donating to Laps With Trady. This fundraiser has been set up by a group of members and supporters and features our lovable larrikin John Trad doing laps of Henson Park on his trusty penny farthing every week. Check out https://www.facebook.com/Laps-with-Trady-100545721662756/ for all the details. To date the Laps with Trady team have raised over $6,500 and are aiming for $8,972 by season’s end.
So get down to the ‘eighth wonder of the modern world’ this Friday 18th September from 10am to cheer Trady on towards 600 laps and even better still, donate to this great cause that is helping to keep the Jets flying into 2021.
Newtown Jets respect and honour the Traditional Custodians of the Land and pay our respects to their Elders past and present. We acknowledge the stories, traditions and living cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples on the lands we meet, gather and play on and that the land area encompassing Henson Park traditionally belonged to the Gadigal people of the Eora nation.
