Jets reign supreme in UK Super League promotion play-off.
Last Sunday the French club Toulouse Olympique XIII RLFC won the “Million Pound Game”, the promotion play-off into the UK Super League for 2022, by defeating Featherstone Rovers 34-12.
There were seven former Newtown Jets players in the Toulouse team, namely: Dominique Peyroux (who played for Newtown in 2008); Jono Ford (2010 and 2011); Mark Kheirallah (2011 and 2012); Remi Casty and Junior VaiVai (2014); Joseph Paulo (2017); and Latrell Schaumkel in 2019.
For Featherstone Rovers, ace halfback Fa’amanu Brown had played with Newtown in 2017.
Here is a brief clip showing former Jets Jono Ford, Mark Kheirallah and Remi Casty:
And the Jets made their presence known in last Sunday’s QRL Grand final.
In the QRL Intrust Super Cup grand final played last Sunday in Brisbane, Norths Devils defeated Wynnum-Manly Seagulls 16-10.
There were three former Newtown Jets playing for the victorious Norths team: Nene Macdonald (who played with Newtown in 2021); Jacob Gagan (2016) and Jonathon Reuben (2014).
Nene Macdonald had scored some very good tries for Newtown in 2021 prior to the COVID-enforced cancellation of the NSWRL Knock-On Effect NSW Cup season.
Newtown Jets respect and honour the Traditional Custodians of the Land and pay our respects to their Elders past and present. We acknowledge the stories, traditions and living cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples on the lands we meet, gather and play on and that the land area encompassing Henson Park traditionally belonged to the Gadigal people of the Eora nation.
